(AP) ? Wild card Tommy Haas defeated five-time champion Roger Federer 7-6 (5), 6-4 to win the Gerry Weber Open for the second time Sunday.

"If someone had told me beforehand that I'd win the title here against probably the greatest player of all time, I would not have believed it," said Haas, who has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the world but struggled with injuries.

The 87th-ranked Haas, the oldest player in the singles draw at 34, recovered from losing his serve in the first game by winning the opening set in a tiebreaker and then getting the decisive break in the ninth game of the second set.

"I'm very impressed with how he played today," Federer said of his good friend. "Tommy deserved to win."

Haas beat Federer in two of their first three meetings early in their careers but hadn't defeated the Swiss great in more than a decade, losing their last nine matchups.

"It was a long time coming since I had the chance to get to that point," said Haas, who started the season outside the top 200.

"It's my 13th title. ... It's probably up there (as the best), if not the sweetest one, especially considering the injuries."

Haas got the break to earn a 5-4 lead after a lengthy rally featuring lobs, chips and a drop shot. That followed two unforced errors in succession from Federer that allowed him to force deuce.

Haas last won the grass-court tournament in 2009, when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final. He hadn't appeared in a final since then, so perhaps nerves played a role in his loss of serve in the first game. Both players had been broken only once this week.

"If I thought about it, this would be the perfect way to say goodbye to tennis. Beating Roger, my 13th title. It would be perfect. But I'm not ready mentally," Haas said. "I hope the body holds up for many years to go. I love to play."

Federer missed another break point in the fifth game to leave the score 3-2, and Haas pulled even by breaking him in the next game, when Federer uncharacteristically netted a simple return.

"I should never have lost the first set, so that hurt. He got momentum after that," the 30-year-old Federer said.

With Haas leading 4-3 in the tiebreaker, a fan called for him to fire an ace, and there was a huge roar from the crowd when he duly obliged with his third.

"I'm just really happy for him ... happy that he's been able to fight off so many injuries and come back and still believe in himself, still want to travel, still want to sacrifice his family (life) too," Federer said of Haas.

It was the first final in the tournament's 20 years to feature two players 30 or older.

The second-seeded Federer was bidding for his fifth tour title of the season and his 75th overall. His only previous final loss in Halle was in 2010, when he lost to Lleyton Hewitt.

Middleton grad Brianne Baty honors fallen coach at College National Finals Rodeo

Brianne Baty was the first to reach her coach?s side after he had been bucked off a horse during rough stock practice last fall.

Sonny Hansen was motionless and unresponsive after landing head first, and died two days later from traumatic head injuries.

The Treasure Valley Community College coach was 43. His Oct. 4 funeral on the Ontario, Ore., campus was attended by nearly 2,500 people.

?I?m never going to be OK with what happened, but I realized that I had to keep going,? said Baty, now a junior at TVCC.

?More than anything, I have dedicated my entire year toward Sonny. I want to do good for him because he is the only reason why I came back to school and came back to rodeo. He believed in me and wanted me to do good.?

The weight of her grief is still difficult to bear, but Baty hasn?t let her former coach down. She finished the regular season No. 1 in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo all-around standings and has qualified for the 64th annual College National Finals Rodeo, which started Sunday and continues through Saturday at the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyo.

Eleven Treasure Valley CC athletes ? seven men and four women ? qualified for the CNFR, where Hansen?s widow and sons will be presented with the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association?s Coach of the Year award Wednesday.

?This award, though given posthumously, is proof that Sonny?s spirit and legacy lives on in college rodeo,? NIRA Commissioner Roger Walters said. ?We are lucky to have such an outstanding individual to be named NIRA Coach of the Year.?

Baty ? a 2009 Middleton High graduate and former Idaho high school all-around champion ? is competing this week in breakaway roping and goat tying with her 9-year-old quarter horse Hickory. She hopes to emerge with the all-around title by the time champions are crowned Saturday night.

?Normally I?ve done pretty good, but this year has just been out of this world. I?ve never done this well,? Baty said. ?I just can?t help but think that it?s because he is with me the whole entire time helping me.?

This is Baty?s third consecutive appearance at the CNFR, where she has finished as high as ninth in goat tying.

But it?s her first without Hansen. And as she has done all season, Baty plans to wear a belt buckle engraved with Hansen?s name during competition.

?I feel like if I wear that buckle he?s there, he?s watching,? she said. ?... We all know how hard this is going to be. Some of us who have been to the college finals before with Sonny are going to have a hard time.

?He was always there for us. He was always the pickup man, so it will be hard not seeing him in the arena.?

Athletes from the University of Idaho, Idaho State and the College of Southern Idaho also are represented at the national finals. More than 400 cowboys and cowgirls, and more than 100 teams are competing.

Nasdaq plans $40 million Facebook IPO fix

Robert Greifeld, Nasdaq OMX Group CEO, explains what went wrong the day of the Facebook IPO.

By Roland Jones

The Nasdaq stock market said Wednesday it will offer cash and rebates totaling approximately $40 million to compensate clients affected by the problems with Facebook?s initial public offering.

A first-day trading glitch marred Facebook?s IPO, leading to complaints of slow order confirmations and too many shares offered at too high a price.

Subsequent lawsuits have alleged that the Nasdaq botched the offering and that deal underwriters Morgan Stanley and others failed to share lowered earnings forecasts with retail investors before the IPO.

Robert Greifeld, CEO of the Nasdaq, said in a CNBC interview his company has ?been embarrassed? by the technical problems that occurred during the Facebook IPO. ?We certainly apologize? to the industry, he said.

The compensation, which is subject to approval by regulators, will see the Nasdaq pay $13.7 million in cash to its affected member firms. The balance would be credited to members to reduce trading costs, with all benefits expected to be achieved within six months for the vast majority of firms, the Nasdaq said in a statement.

The top four market makers in the Facebook IPO -- UBS, Citigroup, Knight Capital, and Citadel Securities -- together lost upward of $115 million due to technical problems that prevented them from knowing for about two hours if their orders had gone through after Facebook shares began trading on May 18.

Under the Nasdaq's plan, investors who attempted to buy the company's shares at $42 or less -- but whose orders were not executed, were executed at an inferior price, or where the transaction did go through successfully but was not immediately confirmed because of technical problems -- would be eligible for compensation.

The Nasdaq?s chief rival, the New York Stock Exchange, objected to the compensation plan, saying in a statement Wednesday it is ?tantamount to forcing the industry to subsidize Nasdaq?s missteps and would establish a harmful precedent that could have far reaching implications for the markets.?

Shares of Facebook are down 29 percent from the company's initial offering price of $38. They recovered slightly Wednesday on news that the company plans to make it easier for advertisers to reach the growing ranks of its users on mobile devices.

Reuters contributed to this report.

Obama, Bill Clinton team up to court New York elite

NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Barack Obama enlisted Bill Clinton to campaign alongside him in New York on Monday, tapping the popular ex-president's star power to rake in cash for his re-election bid from Wall Street investors and show-business elite.

The two men teamed up for the first time since Clinton put Obama's campaign on the defensive last week when he became the most prominent Democrat to disavow attacks on Republican challenger Mitt Romney's record as a private equity executive.

But there was no sign of discord as Obama and Clinton put on a show of unity for a night of fundraising that included a reception with big-money donors, a gala at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, and a star-studded "Barack on Broadway" concert. The events raised more than $3.5 million.

Clinton told the first gathering hosted by billionaire hedge fund manager Marc Lasry that Obama must "win this election and win it unambiguously."

"The alternative would be, in my opinion, calamitous for our country and the world," Clinton said as he and Obama stood shoulder to shoulder in a living room of Lasry's Upper East Side home where guests paid $40,000 a head and sipped cocktails.

Moving to a packed Waldorf ballroom, rocker Jon Bon Jovi - a VIP guest on Air Force One from Washington - was the warm-up act for some 500 people who paid a minimum of $2,500 to attend and who cheered the two Democratic heavyweights.

With Clinton sitting to one side of the stage and occasionally stroking his chin, Obama said Romney's "vision for moving America forward is, as Bill Clinton just said, the same agenda of the previous administration - except on steroids."

Obama and Clinton have not always been on the same page. Their relationship has been strained at times since the ex-Illinois senator beat the former president's wife, Hillary Clinton, now secretary of state, in a bitter race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

SUPPORT COULD BE CRUCIAL

Clinton remains a figure admired by most Democrats, and Obama's aides believe his support could be pivotal for pulling in campaign money and selling independent voters on the president's economic plans.

Clinton oversaw one of the most prosperous economic periods in recent U.S. history and was the last president to balance the federal budget, something Democrats are eager to remind Americans about before the November 6 election.

At Lasry's home Clinton accused Romney of wanting to pursue "wrong-headed" economic policies and linked the Republican's focus on budget austerity to crisis-hit Europe.

As Wall Street supporters sat on plush sofas, Obama avoided some of the anti-business rhetoric that his campaign has used against Romney and to blunt criticism over the sluggish economy.

Obama cast himself as a friend of free enterprise, but asserted that Republicans had adopted a policy of market "absolutism."

Obama is neck-and-neck with Romney in polls and could use all the help he can get.

Dismal jobs numbers last Friday underscored the weakness of the economy and the challenge he faces as he tries to convince voters to give him a second term. The U.S. jobless rate ticked up to 8.2 percent in May.

Clinton's fundraising prowess is also seen as more important than ever as Obama's advisers grow concerned that his campaign-money advantage as a sitting president could be undercut by outside conservative groups spending big to attack his record.

The two candidates tended to their campaign wallets in tough venues politically as Monday was all about money. While Obama was with a traditional Republican constituency in business elites, Romney was scheduled at fundraisers in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. Both states are widely seen as sure wins for Obama in the November election.

CLINTON OFF-MESSAGE?

What the White House may not have counted on from Clinton in the days leading up to their appearance was his habit of speaking his mind - even when that means going off-message from the Obama campaign.

Clinton praised Romney in a CNN interview last week for a "sterling business career" and expressed misgivings about the Obama campaign's strategy of attacking his role at Bain Capital where he made his fortune.

Several other Democratic politicians have also raised questions whether the Bain-related broadsides against Romney backfire with voters by coming across as anti-free enterprise.

In the interview, Clinton - the last Democrat to serve two terms - made clear, however, his belief that Obama was best-suited to the presidency and predicted he would win re-election.

Romney has staked his claim to the presidency by playing up his experience at Bain. But Obama's aides have sought to cast his business record as that of a job-cutting corporate raider and have recently broadened their criticism to his time as Massachusetts governor.

'DOUBLE BILL'

The final act of the presidential double-bill played to a packed house on Broadway.

The pair appeared onstage at a $250-a-seat concert fundraiser at the 1,700-seat New Amsterdam Theatre, home of Disney's "Mary Poppins."

The standing-room-only crowd was primed for Obama and Clinton with performances by Broadway stars, including James Earl Jones, Stockard Channing, Patti LuPone, Angela Lansbury, Mandy Patinkin and Neil Patrick Harris.

"It is good to be back on Broadway," Obama shouted.

He acknowledged that he faces a difficult path to re-election in exhorting supporters to work "just as hard as you did in 2008."

Obama has struggled to rekindle the enthusiasm of the Democratic base that swept him to victory last time, but has since been tempered by a nearly full term of governing and by continuing U.S. economic woes.

Staying on message, Obama alluded to Romney's business record in assailing his opponent for promoting an economic theory that argues that by "maximizing profits" for a rich few like himself, "everybody is going to better off."

World War 3: Terror Drone update, Canada. They like to crash UAVs. Arctic new battlefield for Canadian drones. Canadian military to help Canadian cops kill you from above. Teenagers being trained to operate drones!

Canadian news media reporting that there have been at least 42 drone crashes since 2000, and that they?ve been increasing every year.

It was also revealed that Canada will buy U.S. Air Force (USAF) unarmed Global Hawks for use over the Arctic.? A report said the USAF needed to sell them due to budget cuts.

?You must remember that, in Canada, within the domestic construct, I do not have the right to be able to apply lethal force in Canada. That is the responsibility of the police. The question would be perhaps in the future whether we could work with the police forces to assist them by providing UAVs.?- Lieutenant General Walter Semianiw,? Canadian domestic command, testimony to Canadian Senate committee

The Alberta Aviation Museum is hoping to send a team of 16-18 year old Air Cadets to United Kingdom, to attend a contest for UAV operators.? The contest, called?Schools Aerospace Challenge, is based on Royal Air Force standards for drone operators.

Museum officials say they would like to create a similar contest in Canada: ?Imagine being 16 years old and getting an opportunity like this. It?s a great way to get kids excited and give them an education unlike they?ll ever get anywhere else.?-Thomas Hinderks, Alberta Aviation Museum Association

Tips To Manage A Long Distance Relationship

Long distance relationships are difficult to maintain but yet I know many out there who are doing it just right. All you need is to have a good understanding of your love and you are going to be just fine. Beneath you?ll find some tips about how to have a well-balanced long-distance relationship.

Before you both separate, discuss among yourselves some broad limits which both of you should not cross and have some trust in each other. Not taking the time and pain to discuss important matters such as setting up of relationship boundaries could cause you to suffer in the future.

Communication is going to be the key in your relationship now and so knowing each other really well is going to help you a lot. You both will also need to take the compromise to a whole new level which you haven?t done before.

Find some time for your relationship and call your partner whenever you?re free. If you?re thinking how to communicate with your partner, then go for a phone call as that?s pretty much the best way to be in touch. Staying in touch with each other has it?s own importance in a relationship, something that can make or break a relationship. I?m sure it is not at all hard to stay in touch with your partner when you have just so many mediums to communicate through and some of them are even free.

Most people face the tough challenge of feelings of insecurity towards their partner when in a distant relationship. Insecurity is something that almost every person in a distant relationship faces and so you must be aware of this too. It is usually the distance which makes people annoyed and there comes the insecure feelings towards the partners. You must give proper attention to this issue and not neglect it as it would hurt you in future.

By having fun and interesting conversations with each other, the relationship can remain healthy for a longer period of time. Flirting is one of the best ways to keep the relationship alive and kicking. It will help you both to maintain the kind of chemistry that you shared previously.

Two people can never be successful in managing a long distance relationship if they lack the understanding between each other. Having a sense of understanding between the two partners is just not enough as they also need to have the patience enough to compromise all the time. You can never manage a long distance relationship if your relationship lacks any of the two points I just discussed.

Much of the issues of these kinds of relationships have been covered in this article. So I hope you like my article and benefit your relationship from it.
